The Sea Horse Today

There are several pubs in the City which I would highly recommend if you are visiting the City of London. With the caveat you need to pick the right time of day, The Sea Horse is one of these pubs. With a single bar towards the back and a square footage for customers of 400 feet you would be hard pushed to miss someone you had arranged to meet.
What is that right time of day I hear you shout … you have plenty of hours to choose from, but my recommendation would be lunchtime, 12-2pm and evenings 6-10pm.
If pushed I would recommend you choose a sunny Wednesday lunchtime, get there early so you can take advantage of the chairs dotted around the windows and savour the atmosphere of the lunchtime clientele revealing in the beer and heat of the sun. The Sea Horse has the very best southern sun facing aspect of any City of London pubs.
The dart board hung on the wall to the right-hand side near tells you this is an unusual pub within the City Boundary, another indication is The Sea Horse is open seven days a week. The only City pubs who can successfully run these days with weekend opening must be able to bring in regular local clientele and capture those adventurous tourists who want to experience the “real thing”. Have no doubt, what you’ll get here is an honest price, well kept pint served in a welcoming relax atmosphere.

The Sea Horse Past

During the Blitz, Queen Victoria Street suffered severe damage. When the area was rebuilt, a garden was created across three levels, each revealing traces of the site’s long history—from World War II bomb damage to medieval remains and even fragments of a Roman bathhouse. Today, it is a calm green oasis amid the busy city, complete with grapevines. The garden is named after Fred Cleary, known as “Flower Fred,” a chairman of the Metropolitan Public Gardens Association who established, maintained, and enhanced more than 150 green spaces in inner London.
